Time Stops For No Man
While surfing around on the internet last night, I came across an old video of myself playing guitar on stage. I had never seen this video and didn’t even know it existed. It was from 12 years ago. While I was amused at watching my younger self and my friends jam out on stage, I was astounded at how young I looked. I remember this band…. It wasn’t THAT long ago, right? But I had a lot more hair and I was wearing a tighter t-shirt that I’d never think about wearing now. What has happened to me? I never thought I’d get older. I never thought my hair would thin out. I never thought my waistline would expand. Ughhhhh!!! Am I turning into my dad?
To be honest, I’m still in pretty good shape for a 43-year-old man. And I’ve still got more hair than your average guy my age. But I know that as I get older, it will become harder and harder to stay in shape and look the way I looked on stage all those years ago.
Finding A Healthy Lifestyle
So, I’m always trying to find ways to live an active and healthy lifestyle that enables me to meet my goals of staying in shape. One thing that I struggle with is that I’ve had a lingering back injury that prevents me from doing a lot of different workouts. I’d love to go to a high intensity class at the gym that leaves me dripping in sweat. Or I’d love to train for a mini-marathon. But my body simply won’t let me do these things. So, in order to keep my body fit and healthy, I must focus on a small number of low impact workouts and….. My diet.
I’ve never been a “diet guy”. I’ve honestly never needed to go “on a diet” to lose weight or anything. And I’ve always been a bit wary of them anyways. I’m more of the kind of guy that just tries to do things sensibly rather than follow strict rules to “always” or “never” do something. All these diets just seemed too restrictive.

This book has gotten my attention. Joel Marion is taking a whole new approach to dieting by changing the several philosophies long held by many other diets. One of the main points of this diet is that it permits, even encourages late night snacking.
We’ve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.
