With summer right around the corner, I’m reminded of all the great memories I enjoyed as a kid during this time of year. To celebrate that, I wanted to share this Root Beer Bundt Cake Recipe made with A&W® Root Beer.
Warm Summer Memories
My son has just turned 10-years-old. Wow! He is now in double digits! Where did this past decade go? It is such and exciting thing to see him grow up and become his own person. He is becoming more and more independent. My wife and I think that we probably won’t see him much this summer. We have a great neighborhood full of kids. There is also a neighborhood pool. He’s going to be spending his summer days roaming around the neighborhood with his friends, having all sorts of adventures.
This gives me fond memories of my own childhood. My friends and I would ride our bikes around endlessly, exploring the world around us. We’d spend long hours at the pool, playing with a seemingly endless tank of energy. One of our favorite things to do was to walk down the street to the local drug store. We would purchase candy and a drink of our choice. I would always get some sort of fruity candy (because chocolate melts in the summer!) and an A&W Root Beer. I can still remember, just like it was yesterday, my friends and I were walking down the road on a hot summer day with some candy in my pocket and an ice cold A&W Root Beer in my hand.
Making Memories with A&W Root Beer
That smooth, sweet taste of A&W Root Beer always triggers fond childhood memories. It’s funny, I was asking my wife about childhood summer memories and she told me a great story. She didn’t spend her childhood summers in the suburbs of the Midwest like I did. She got to spend them in a cabin tucked in the beautiful mountains of Idaho. She says that her dad would make A&W Root Beer Floats all the time during summer. It is amazing that the both of us, growing up so far away from each other, both have great childhood memories of A&W Root Beer.
Of course, we want to continue these traditions with our kids now that we are adults. They both have birthdays this time of year so we wanted to get our family together to celebrate both of them at the same time. I thought it would be fun to spotlight A&W Root Beer for our party since there are so many fun summer memories with it. I also wanted to use A&W Root Beer because they are celebrating their 100th Anniversary. You know if a product has been around that long, they must be doing something right!
So, for our party, we definitely wanted to make traditional Root Beer Floats. You certainly can’t go wrong with that, but I also thought it would be fun to make an A&W Root Beer Bundt Cake. Soft, moist chocolate cake with that familiar smooth sweet flavor of A&W Root Beer. On top, I drizzled some nice light frosting made with more A&W Root Beer. What’s not to love?
The recipe is pretty easy! I already had most of these ingredients. For the ingredients I didn’t have, I was able to easily pick them up at my local Walmart. We do a lot of our shopping at Walmart. It is always easy to find everything, they always have low prices and a great selection of everything my family needs. From groceries and beyond, we know that we can find it at Walmart. We also sometimes use Walmart’s Grocery Pickup for added convenience.
