Ribs, Ribs, I Love Ribs!
Every time that I go to a restaurant and see ribs on the menu, I have a really tough decision to make. I absolutely LOVE ribs and am prone to order them every single time I see them on the menu. I know that I should try something new, but I just can’t resist it.
I’ll often make ribs at home. But, to be honest, I don’t really love to grill. I know, an American male that doesn’t love to grill meat? It’s true, I have to admit. I’ll grill when needed, but I never really go out of my way to do it. So, being able to cook baby back ribs quickly and easily without having to grill them would be a huge deal for me.
What Is The Instant Pot?
Luckily, the Instant Pot has come into our lives. If you don’t have an Instant Pot, you need to get one asap! The Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker that makes cooking everything so much easier. It is small, safe and easy to use. You can make just about anything in it, from soups to seafood to desserts. I can’t wait to try out Instant Pot Ribs. The pressure cooker builds up steam and helps to both cook the meat faster and keep the flavor in. For example, you can cook a full roast in an hour, where that would take you much longer in an oven. You can literally just “set it and forget it”!
What are Baby Back Ribs?
Are baby back ribs the same as spare ribs? Well, no. Baby back ribs are the the ribs from higher up towards the spine on the animal. They are often shorter than spare ribs, this is why they are called “baby back”. It isn’t because they come from a baby pig! The spare ribs are usually longer and have more bone in them. Both options can be tasty if cooked properly and both respond well to the “low and slow” cooking method. They are great smoked! We are using baby back ribs for this recipe because we will be putting them in the Instant Pot and they will fit better. Now it is time to dive into our pressure cooker ribs!
Instant Pot Ribs Ingredients
Okay, we are ready to make our Instant Pot Ribs. Here are the ingredients you need:
- 1 rack of baby back pork ribs
- 1/4 C brown sugar (packed)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 C Chicken broth
Instant Pot Ribs Directions
First, you want to remove the lining from the bottom side of the ribs. In a small dish, combine the brown sugar, dried oregano, white pepper, paprika, salt, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, basil and cayenne pepper. Stir all of these seasonings together. This is the rub for your ribs. Rub this all over both sides of the baby back ribs.
Go ahead and put the metal rack into your Instant Pot pressure cooker. Carefully place the pork baby back ribs inside the Instant Pot and stand them on their side. Carefully fit the ribs around the inside of the pot.
Next, pour your chicken broth into the Instant Pot. Be careful with this so you don’t pour the broth on the ribs and rinse off the rub.
Secure the lid and close the vent. Press the “meat” button an set it for 25 minutes. Allow pressure to release for 10 minutes.
After the 10 minutes is complete, do the quick release until all the pressure has been let out. Remove your ribs (carefully, they will be tender!) from the Instant Pot and put them on a parchment lined baking sheet. Broil on high for about 5 minutes, checking often to make sure they don’t burn. Enjoy!
These Instant Pot Ribs will be a hit with your friends, family or whoever you make them for. The Instant Pot never ceases to amaze me how quickly and consistently it cooks meat to tender deliciousness. Try out this recipe for the next football game or dinner party. It will not disappoint!
