We all love the State Fair, but we sure don’t like the guilt. Now you can have one of my favorite State Fair Treats without all the guilt! These Air Fryer Oreos are dipped in a light and sweet Bisquick Pancake Batter and Air Fried to perfection! Slightly crispy on the outside and soft and sweet inside, they are just as delicious with just a fraction of the oil. Oh yeah, and I used Mega Stuffed Oreos for this recipe because…. well…. MEGA STUFFED! Why not?
Air Fryer Treats
At this point, I think I’ve made just about everything in my Air Fryer. From vegetables to fish and everything in between. I love to use my Air Fryer because it seems to cook just about everything perfectly by using just a fraction of the oil. It can take some healthier foods and make them super tasty, or it can take some tastier foods (but maybe not so healthy) and cut out some of the fat and calories.
A couple weeks ago, I tried making Corn Dogs in the Air Fryer. They were amazing! I’ll never cook Corn Dogs another way again. That got me thinking, what other “State Fair” food could I make in the Air Fryer? The State Fair is the king of “fried foods” right? So there seems to be endless opportunities. It only seemed logical to start with Air Fryer Oreos.
Air Fryer Oreos
I can’t believe how easy these Air Fryer Oreos are to make. They were literally one of the easiest Air Fryer Recipes I’ve done yet. I make Bisquick pancakes every Saturday morning for my kids, so I thought that the Bisquick “ultimate” pancake mix would be the perfect coating for these Oreos. Oh yeah, and I used Mega Stuffed Oreos (is this the same as Double Stuffed, I have no idea?) because why the heck would I not!?!
Here is what you’ll need to get started:
- 6 Oreos, I used Mega Stuffed
- 1 1/2 Cup Bisquick Mix
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1 Egg
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tsp Baking Powder
- 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- Powdered Sugar for Garnish
If you look on the back of the Bisquick Box, they have a “classic” pancake recipe and they have an “ultimate” pancake recipe. The “ultimate” adds sugar, baking powder, vegetable oil and vanilla extract to the “classic” recipe. Use the “ultimate”, trust me. Because didn’t need that much batter, I cut all the ingredients in half except for the Bisquick Mix. I used a little extra to keep the batter thicker to stick to the oreos.
Can You Use Parchment Paper In An Air Fryer?
This was actually my first time using parchment paper in my Air Fryer. I read around on the internet and saw that it IS pretty easy to buy Air Fryer Parchment Paper off of Amazon. The Parchment Paper that is made for Air Fryers is perforated so that the Air doesn’t blow up into the fan and possibly start a fire. Not good. They are also cut to perfectly fit your Air Fryer.
Well, I didn’t have one of those and I didn’t want to wait for my own. So I easily made my own Air Fryer Parchment Paper. I simply turned my basket upside down onto a square of parchment paper. I drew an outline around the basket. Then I cut the paper in the shape of the basket. Next, use a small pointy object (I used a cake tester and it was perfect) to poke some small holes in the paper. Small enough that not much, if any batter will run through.
Notes, Tips and Variations
- A MESSY JOB- Dipping the Oreos in the batter did seem to be a messy job. I found that using my smallest set of tongs worked the best. I grabbed the cookies by their sides, not the tops and bottoms.
- EXPERIMENT WITH OREOS- I used the Mega Stuffed Oreo but you don’t have to. Use the regular ones or experiment with different flavors.
- DON’T SKIP THE POWDERED SUGAR- I am technically calling this a “garnish” but it really does add some great flavor to these Air Fryer Oreos, don’t skip it.
- WATCH YOUR AIR FRYER!- I’ve learned that all Air Fryers are different and cook at different speeds. These Air Fried Oreos were done in about 4 minutes, honestly faster than I thought they would be. You want to take them out just when they start to get golden brown on top.
- DON’T CROWD THEM!- Make sure your Oreos have some room to breath. The batter will expand as it cooks, even with the space I had on mine, they ended up joining together a bit. I used my larger Air Fryer and had room for 6. My smaller one would have probably only been able to do 4. So you may need to do two batches. It’s only 4 minutes to cook them, so no big deal.
I hope you enjoy these Air Fryer Oreos. My kids absolutely LOVED these. I’m sure I’m going to have to make them again soon. But, they literally only take about 10 minutes to make, start to finish so I’ve got no problem with that at all!
