Can You Air Fry Vegetables?
Yep! Yes, you can! I’ve had my Air Fryer for about two years now. At first I was making “unhealthy” foods a little more healthy. For instance, I made Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks, Air Fryer Chicken Wings and Air Fryer Loaded Potato Cakes. I even did my own Air Fryer take on classic Asian take-out cuisine like this Air Fryer Orange Chicken.
But lately, I’ve discovered that an Air Fryer isn’t just great to make those traditionally Air Fried foods lower in saturated fat and calories. Air Fryers are also great to make traditionally healthy foods tastier! So this has brought me to the realm of Air Fryer Vegetables. So far, I’ve made:
- Air Fryer Zucchini Chips
- Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts
- Air Fryer Crispy Mushrooms
- Air Fryer Healthy Mushrooms
- Air Fryer Green Beans
Air Frying vegetables is a great idea to make a healthy appetizer or fun side dish for just about any meal. I love how the Air Fryer Zucchini Chips worked out, so I thought I’d make a slightly different version of that with these Air Fryer Zucchini Fries.
Should You Bread Air Fryer Vegetables?
That really is up to you. Above, I have both a breaded and unbreaded version of Air Fryer Mushrooms. They are both great. I also have an unbreaded Air Fryer Cauliflower and a breaded Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower. Gotta be honest here: the Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower is tough to beat! It’s one of my most popular recipes.
When I bread my vegetables, I usually use a combination of corn starch (or flour), egg and Panko bread crumbs. I coat the veggie in the corn starch, then the egg and then the bread crumbs. There are all sorts of seasoning that you can put into your recipe at any stage as well. I often use garlic and onion powder. And I sometimes mix Parmesan Cheese in with my Panko.
When I don’t bread them, I just coat them in about 2 tbsp of olive oil and some seasonings of my choice. You can do this with just about any vegetables.
